reading and learning

one of my goals is to get more people reading, for reading does more to give you a competitive advantage in life than most anything. in a related vein, i wish more people were into continued learning. why anyone thinks the learning process stops when you leave school is beyond me. thusly, this page contains some notes, thoughts, and observations on these issues…

Books are meant to be used: marked, notated, highlighted, marginalia, dog-eared, folded, underlined, torn, post-its everywhere, etc. The dust-jacket wrinkled, torn, bent, ripped, marked, used as bookmarks. The paperback’s spine creased to oblivion. The hardback’s cover bent, dented, schmushed, written on, damaged from dropping, sitting on, rolling over whilst napping. And oh, you better put your name in the book somewhere…I like knowing who has consumed it previously…

Always acknowledge your limitations. Knowledge of your ignorance is key to wisdom. “The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.”
